Reopening Guidelines as of 6/3/2020

Subject to changes and additions

These last few months have been uncertain and challenging for us all. Thanks to the prudent guidelines we charted and followed, we’re proud to announce that while continuing to help those in need, we have had no incidents of spread to our staff or families we have served of Covid-19.

As we move into these next few months, we continue to follow local, state, federal and Diocese of Cleveland guidelines.

Starting today, June 3, 2020, we will be following these guidelines for visitation and funeral services.

Entrance into the funeral home will be at the front of the building. We will allow 10 people at a time into the building for visitation, wearing a mask, and following the prompts for social distancing. Please pay your respects to the family, spend precious time with the deceased and exit through the rear of the building. Please consider others that are waiting to get into the building. We will have the air conditioning on, however, we will also have windows opened and fans running for additional circulation. We want you to remain comfortable so keep these things in mind when considering clothing options for attendance. Be prepared with an umbrella if weather forecast calls for rain. Out of respect for one another, the families we serve are asking that you adhere to these guidelines or leave a condolence message at ferfoliafuneralhomes.com Live streaming will still be available for those that are unable to attend.

Our Catering Department will remain closed for gatherings as we explore the best way to open, providing safety to all those that attend. We continue to offer to provide catering services for you take home.

We thank you for your continued trust in Ferfolia Funeral Home, to honor the life of your loved one. We will update this information as necessary.

Covid-19 Guidelines as of 3/17/2020

Subject to changes and additions

During this challenging and stressful time we are working to provide each family we serve with the same personal service that has been the hallmark of Ferfolia Funeral Home since 1927.

Consistent with that goal and based upon recent orders from the Office of Governor Mike DeWine, the Ohio Department of Health, and the Diocese of Cleveland we have temporarily modified some of the services we offer to our community. We recognize that some may view these changes as extreme, but please know that they were made in an effort to balance our mission to honor every life and our desire to protect the health and safety of those who call on us, their family and friends, and our family and co-workers.

During this critical time, we have asked certain members of our staff to stay home with their loved ones, this includes any staff member over 65 and our catering department. We are supporting them with normal pay and are looking for other ways to ease their concerns and share our appreciation for all they do. The remaining staff has been divided into two teams. There will always be a team in the building at the adjusted hours that are listed below.

As a member of the Nordonia Hills business community, we have looked for ways to continue to support those in need in our area. We made a donation to Knights Caring 4 Knights. This group is working with the Nordonia Hills Schools Foundation to ensure families’ food needs are met as best as possible. We feel it is absolutely the right thing to do to give back to the community that has supported us for so many years.

We encourage you to do the same, maybe offer to go the store for an elderly neighbor or make a daily phone call to one who cannot leave their home

Until the challenges presented by the COVID-19 have subsided, the following changes to our services have occurred, effective immediately:

  • We remain on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist your family at the time of need, but the hours that someone will be available at the funeral home have been reduced to 8:30 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Monday – Friday, 8:30 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, and 9:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. on Sunday.
  • When making arrangements, we are asking that a family does their best to limit the number of those coming to the funeral home to make those arrangements. In keeping with the Governor’s order regarding those age 65 and older, please consider staying home if you are a family member in that age category.
  • To ensure that we include EVERY family member that wishes to be involved in making arrangements, we will use every available technology to make funeral arrangements. We can use conference calls, web conferencing and email to communicate with your family.
  • If you choose to have visitation at the funeral home, visitation hours will now be from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M.
  • We will not be using a common register book, but will offer individual sheets of paper that can be dropped in a box at the funeral home so every family will know that you were there to pay your respects. We will offer you a pen at the door to use for this purpose. Please do not share pens.

We understand that some of the most important times in a family’s life happen while sharing a meal together. However, Governor DeWine’s orders on March 15, prevent those serving food from offering “dine-in” services. We are abiding by that order and as a result, all coffee and pastry service and receptions following funeral services are discontinued for the time being.

Governor DeWine’s order does allow for “take out” or “to go” dining options. Because it is important to share meals as a family we will be offering “take out” services for meals following funeral services. You can still rely on Ferfolia Funeral Home to assist your family in providing any type of meal. We can provide a party tray for sandwiches from K & K Meats or a hot meal from Maple Heights Catering. To complete your meal, we can offer pastry trays from our local bakery, Stan’s Northfield Bakery.

We encourage you to support not only our partners, but all locally owned businesses.

We will be placing candles in our windows uniting people around the world, and as a reminder that we will get through this together! Please consider doing the same. Let’s fill the night with light and hope. Post your photo to social media and tag your image with #fillthenightwithlight.

The Ferfolia Family and staff remain committed to providing the services that best honor the life of every individual. Be well, stay healthy, and we will continue to communicate further changes here and our website as they are made.
